School Uniform Policy
Purpose of the Policy
This uniform policy has been developed following consultation with parents, conducted by the Governing Body. It reflects the school’s values and supports equality, inclusion, safety, and a sense of belonging within the school community.
Purchasing School Uniform
School uniform can be purchased directly from The Uniform Monkeys, located in the town centre, or ordered online via their website here: https://theuniformmonkeys.co.uk/product-category/schoolwear/garden-city-academy
School Uniform Bank
The school operates a school uniform bank, which provides good‑quality pre‑loved uniform items to families who may need additional support.
Parents and carers who would like to access the uniform bank, or who require assistance with school uniform for any reason, are encouraged to contact the school office. We are committed to supporting families and ensuring all pupils feel comfortable and included.
Nursery and Pre‑School Uniform Expectations
We request that children wear a school‑branded jade jumper or cardigan where possible to promote a sense of belonging and transition into school life.
Children are welcome to wear comfortable, practical, and weather‑appropriate clothing on the lower half, such as leggings, jogging bottoms, or trousers, to support active play and independence.
All clothing should be suitable for early years activities and allow children to manage toileting and dressing independently.
Main School Uniform (Reception to Year 6)
All pupils are expected to wear the following:
- Jade sweatshirt or cardigan (school logo preferred)
- Black skirt, pinafore dress, trousers, or shorts - no shorter than 'fingertips with arms by the side'
- White shirt or polo shirt
- Green and white checked or striped dress (summer option)
- White socks
The following items are not permitted as part of the main school uniform:
- Joggers
- Leggings
- White or coloured trainers
PE Kit
Pupils are required to wear:
- School PE t‑shirt
- Black shorts
- Trainers
In colder weather, pupils may wear:
- A plain black, non‑branded tracksuit, or
- Plain black jogging bottoms with a jade school jumper or cardigan worn over the PE kit.
Pupils should attend school wearing their PE kit on PE days.
Footwear
- Black school shoes, or
- Plain black trainers
Footwear must be safe, suitable for daily activity, and securely fastened.
Jewellery, Watches and Valuables
For health and safety reasons:
- Jewellery should not be worn or brought into school
- Pupils with pierced ears may wear small, plain stud earrings only
- Watches and valuables are discouraged; the school cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage
Hair and Appearance
Hair should be neat and appropriate for a school setting.
The following are not permitted:
- Extreme or novelty hairstyles
- Bright or unnatural hair colours
Labelling Clothing and Personal Property
Parents and carers must ensure that all clothing, footwear, and personal belongings are clearly labelled with their child’s name. This helps prevent loss and supports the efficient return of items.
Equality and Inclusion
This policy is informed by the Equality Act 2010. Reasonable adjustments will be made where uniform requirements conflict with a pupil’s:
- Religious beliefs
- Cultural practices
- Medical or sensory needs
Requests should be discussed with the Headteacher in advance.
